Eyelash Glue Allergy
About 5% of eyelash technicians will develop an allergy to the adhesives they use.
Cyanoacrylate is the main chemical that is causing the allergy. It's in all the eyelash adhesives that I have come across and will be very difficult to avoid. The allergy is cumulative, it will not affect your clients in the same way as it affects technicians. It takes between 6 months to a year of regular exposure for the symptoms to show.
The fumes come into contact with your nasal membranes which causes your hypersensitive immune system to kick in. Symptoms include swelling of the sinus membranes, increased mucous production, red and watery eyes (a bit like hay fever). The overproduction of the histamines by the immune system can cause the surrounding tissue to be damaged. Antihistamines and decongestants act to decrease the allergic reaction by controlling the chemicals released by the hyperactive immune system. Antihistamines can reduce swelling and thicken the mucus production but it may also slow the healing process.
Treating the symptoms and not the cause of the problem is not the best course of action. Avoiding it should be the first step. Use a no fume no odour sensitive glue, keep the area well ventilated (a fan may help) keep glues away from your face and wear a face mask up to EN149 FFP3 level. The second step should be the boosting of your immune systems ability to heal itself, taking dosages of vitamin C is one of your best means of defence against nasal allergies. Common vitamins and over the counter products that can help you with your nasal allergies are Vitamin C, Eucalyptus oil, Vitamin E, Beta Carotene, Quercitin.
Vitamin C is essential for defending the body against pollution and infection. It enhances the immune system and aids in growth and repair of bone and tissue. Add Eucalyptus or olbas oil to boiling water and inhale the steam that is being generated. This treatment is also very good for any type of stuffy nose due to allergy problems. Both readily diffuse into the air and can provide benefits to nasal areas. Vitamin E protects the lung tissue from inhaled pollutants and aids in the functioning of the immune system. Beta Carotene protects the mucus membranes nose, throat and lungs. It also helps protect Vitamin C from oxidation, which enables it to perform at optimum efficiency. Quercitin is also known for its ability to block the release of histamines, thus reducing or preventing allergy symptoms.

New Shipping System
Royal Mail have put their prices up dramatically, the standard price for a First Class Recorded packet has gone up to £4.80 (£3.65 + 35p for packaging materials and 20% VAT) However the level of service the Royal Mail offer has not increased. To combat this we have contracted an International Courier to handle the majority of our shipping needs.
For orders up to 500grams in weight the courier service is £4.25 including VAT. Not only is it cheaper but the service they offer is superb.
They offer Next Day delivery, plus, if you give your mobile number at checkout, a text message will be sent to your mobile with a 1 hour slot for the expected time of delivery, if this doesn't suit, simply reply to the text to change the day of delivery to suit you. Accurate up to the minute tracking is available.
All orders placed before 3:00pm Monday to Friday will be packed and dispatched same day. We do not despatch and the couriers do not deliver on Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holidays. Orders placed Friday before 3:00 will be delivered Monday.
Some Royal Mail services deliver Saturday. See the options at checkout.
All shipping charges are based on weight and location. In some cases it may work out cheaper to use Royal Mail, you will be given a choice at checkout.
European Deliveries and World Wide shipping will be handled by the same courier. Prices and delivery times are very dependant on location, weight and size of goods ordered. Our “Basket” has a shipping calculator built in and will give accurate shipping costs for most orders. If the location, weight or size is not programmed into our system you will not be shown shipping options and you must email for a price.
